Suicide Prevention Trainings

QPR

Time Requirement: 1.5 Hours

Like CPR, QPR is a simple process that anyone can be trained to use, to help prevent a suicidal act. Participants learn how to recognize the warning signs for someone who may be at risk for suicide, and then get them to appropriate help.

Learn how to prevent suicide by using QPR to:

  • Ask Questions to assess the situation

  • Persuade the person to stay alive and accept help

  • Refer the person to a professional for help to get them through the crisis and treat any underlying mental illness.

Mental Health First Aid

Time Requirement: 8 Hours

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour training course designed to give members of the public key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.  Just as CPR training helps a layperson without medical training assist an individual following a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid training helps a layperson assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis.

Learn how to use the Action Plan ALGEE:

  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm

  • Listen non-judgmentally

  • Give reassurance and information

  • Encourage appropriate professional help

  • Encourage self-help and other support strategies

Working Minds

Time Requirement: 2 Hours
 
Working Minds trains organizations to proactively address suicide in the workplace. Just as organizations have realized they can help reduce heart disease by encouraging exercise, they can also reduce suicide by promoting mental health and encouraging early identification and intervention. This 2-hour training will educate and equip businesses with tools to address mental health and suicide concerns within the workplace while creating a forum for dialogue and critical thinking about workplace mental health challenges. 
 

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Time Requirement: 8 Hours

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a course designed to give participants key skills to help an adolescent who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.  The 8-hour course covers a range of common disorders and potential crises such as helping a young person who is having a panic attack, is contemplating suicide or is struggling with substance abuse.

Learn how to use the Action Plan ALGEE:

  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm

  • Listen non-judgmentally

  • Give reassurance and information

  • Encourage appropriate professional help

  • Encourage self-help and other support strategies
